A Hunters Hall wedding photographed by Norfolk wedding photographer Nic Skerten.
A wedding close to home for me this weekend – Hunters Hall at Swanton Morley with the lovely couple, Rebecca and Chris. And we were blessed with perfect weather for the day.
Rebecca was getting ready in the cottage onsite so we managed to get a few bridal preparation photographs of her with her bridesmaids. I always like to get some images of family and friends as they arrive and before the ceremony, capturing the expressions and interactions between them – relatives not seen for a while, acquaintances rekindled. Moments the bride and groom miss out on so they form an important part of the documentary photographic story I shoot for them.
The ceremony was held in the dairy barn which has the advantage of beautiful natural light from the huge window facing the couple – always  giving the opportunity for some emotional images of the bride and groom making their vows in front of their family and friends. Rebecca lookws stunning in her beautiful wedding dress supported by her bridesmaids in their elegant blue gowns.
After the ceremony everyone gathered outside in the old dairy yard of what is still a working farm giving me the opportunity to capture family and friends toasting and congratulating Rebecca and Chris – pure, unscripted emotions – such a magical time for me as a documentary wedding photographer. I never understand why so many photographers curtail this period after the ceremony and rush everyone away to shoot the formal groups – such a waste of a natural and authentic display of real emotion. Even the line-up, even though they take so much longer than everyone expects, is a rich source of naturally emotive images.
Whilst my approach is documentary in style – not staging images or directing people in any way I do, however, offer to take the couple away for a few minutes at a convenient point during the celebrations to capture some romantic portraits of the two of them together – something Rebecca and Chris wanted to do.
Here are a few of my favourites from the day.
