Ama & Phil’s Wedding Highlights

It was only 8 days between Ama and Phil’s pre-wedding shoot and the big day itself.  Unfortunately, the weather on their wedding day didn’t start well with grey skies, high winds and then rain!  I shouldn’t have tempted fate in my last post.

The ceremony was at Fakenham Registry and the heavens opened straight after the ceremony finished – so everyone was stuck inside the reception area with no chance of any photographs outside.  At least the rain stopped enough to get the confetti shot as the bride and groom left to go to Aldborough Hall.

Once at Aldborough Hall we managed to make the best of the few flashes of sunshine and good light to get some images outside.  Despite the weather I think they came out well. Aldborough Hall is a beautiful building and even in March there are plenty of locations inside and out for photographs – I should imagine that later in the year it must be even better.

The following are some of my favourites from the day.

Ama & Phil – Pre-Wedding Shoot

Last Sunday I went up to Cley to do the pre-wedding shoot for Ama and Phil.  They are a lovely couple and their wedding, on the 23rd March, will be my first this year.

We struck lucky with the weather – it was sunny and relatively warm – I hope that bodes well for the day of the wedding.

The following are a selection of images from the shoot.

Shortlisted for Landscape Category of PPOTY

Received an email back in February telling me that the image below had been shortlisted in the Landscape category of the Professional Photographer magazine Professional Photographer of the Year competition.

I grew up in Cornwall near St Michael’s Mount and when I visit my mother, who still lives down there, I always make sure I get out to do some photography of the beautiful Cornish landscape. When I was down there late last year I took the opportunity to get out onto the North Coast of Cornwall. High winds were forecast which always means spectacularly stormy seas on the Atlantic facing coast. This shot was taken early in the morning at Godrevy and the wind was blowing a “hooly” – as it does down there. Even though it was windy it wasn’t particularly cold – not like it gets up here in Norfolk!

Godrevy Lighthouse was built in 1859 and when you see the seas running like they are in this picture, you can understand why they put a lighthouse here.  A dangerous reef, called the Stones, extends outwards from here towards St.Ives, on which many vessels were wrecked.

There hasn’t been a lighthouse keeper here for a long time as the lighthouse was actually modified to automatic operation way back in 1939 and became solar powered in 1995.  It’s now monitored and controlled remotely from the Trinity House Control Centre in Harwich.

Anyway, back to the competition – I haven’t heard anything and they announce the result in a week or so’s time so I imagine I haven’t won.  Oh well – maybe next year!

More Book Cover Sales

A few more of the images I’ve sold in the last couple of months for book covers alongside the actual covers themselves, where I have the information.  It can take a few months for me to be told which book my images have been sold for, due to the apparent secrecy involved in new book launches!

This first one, sold to a Spanish publisher is on a book by Laurent Botti.  Apparently the title means “A Voice in the Fog”.  As you can see, the little red pram wasn’t in my original!

This next book is, by all accounts, a bit racy – I wouldn’t know, I haven’t read it - honest!  You can see where they have stretched the bare midriff and added the tattoo.

Japanese Calendar Sale

Well – it seems that I’ve sold my first stock image into Japan!

I have a few botanical images with the Alamy stock library (Stock photography by Nic Skerten at Alamy ) – which I really must add to!  Even though they are small in number they have sold a few times and the latest, shown below,  is for a calendar in Japan.

An interesting point is that this picture, and the others like it, weren’t taken with a camera!
